Everyone needs a little kindness once in a while.

I sat down today at a busy wireless internet shop and there was an elderly man sitting next to me with his shoulders slumped, just staring into his coffee cup.
I looked over at him and he looked up at me. I was thinking, “Oh god, look at him, he looks so crabby and so shut down. I hope I’m never so grumpy when I’m older.”
I said “Hi, how are you?”
He said; “I’m really sad. My wife of 60 years passed away yesterday. Thank you for saying hello, you actually have her same eye color.”
I was blown away.
How many times do I silently judge someone? Oh they are crabby, oh they are shut down, oh they are unfriendly…Again, I’m taught the lesson of realizing we just never know what someone is going through in their life and how we might touch them in the slightest way with kindness.
We spoke for a few minutes and after we were finished, he stood up, put his hand on my shoulder and said; “Don’t waste a single minute of it all. It’s all so precious and it goes so fast.” And with that, he walked out.
