A letter to the ex-wife

Dear Soul Sister;

You will come to know me soon enough.  We’re sisters in many ways, yet I know you won’t accept me….. so I write this to your heart instead of your ears.

I stand surrounded by the baggage you recently left behind and find myself actually walking in your shoes.  In many ways the man we love is better for knowing you and for losing you; yet in more ways he is damaged and wounded in manners that only I will ever understand.

Don’t hate me because I am tempted as you once were to give my heart to this man.
Don’t ask your children to hate me.  They have been put through enough don’t you think? You never know how another good woman might affect their lives.  You never know what I may be able to teach them, and you never know when you yourself may need a strong hearted woman to take up the slack as your life begins again.

Don’t hate him for moving on into a new life.  A happy man is a healthy man, and our man will be a better father with an open heart.  Don’t hate a new child that is born into this world innocent and unaware of past dramas.  You never know how this child may love you or how you may affect it’s life as the good woman you are…..

Most of all, don’t hate yourself as you see him moving on.  I will walk in the shoes of pain that you once walked in.  I will learn the same lessons you once learned, and I will teach him new things that will hopefully make him a better person.

I believe that people come together to learn lessons and if those lessons last a lifetime or a short time; all that matters is that the lessons are learned and lived.

May your next lesson be one of joy.  May you bless my lesson with the knowings of a woman that once walked in these shoes.
